Lily of Clear Light

The kind of thing I am personally interested in when it comes to spirituality is often something very technical. A natural order of how things relate to each other. Why is this part here and this part there. Or why does this part of my consciousness work like this. I imagine this must be kind of like what people feel who enjoy tinkering with their car or bike a lot. It is a way in which my intuition and analytical mind can come together.

Some years ago, during my Yoga studies with yogacharya Ajita, my interest was drawn towards the language of Sanskrit. In the Yoga tradition there are beautiful ancient stories of how Rishis (Yogic seers — enlightened beings who had greatly developed the sensitivity of their mind) revised the system of sounds used in language to exactly match the energy patterns of their meaning. Thereby synthetically restoring their natural order. This they called Sanskrit. Many of the Yogic scriptures of old were written in this language.

Another part of ancient Yogic lore I came across a lot in that time is that the top area of our energetic system, our crown chakra, which combines in itself all other chakras, is said to be like a lotus flower of a thousand petals. Furthermore, that each of those petals is activated by a basic syllable from the Sanskrit language.

Much later, about a year after I naturally felt it was time to wrap up my studies with Ajita and left his programme, I was playing around with some of these syllables in my mind while I was sitting on the couch at home next to my fiancee. After a while, it somehow all came together and I realised how these Sanskrit syllables could be used for a terrific meditation exercise, which would stimulate all the parts of our consciousness. Energising all the petals in the crown chakra. At this exact moment, I saw a large and beautiful lily flower made out of clear light unfold on the coffee table in front of us. When I saw this I just knew I had found something special!

Of course, my fiancee didn’t see the flower. It was only happening in my own consciousness. But it was a sign nonetheless.

Now, through this organisation, I seek to teach people this exercise, that I now call the ‘Lily of Clear Light’. It is an easy to learn and very practical meditation exercise. One that is very suitable for cultivating a daily practice with, even for beginners.

Om! May it bring you and many others Light and the Joy of the Higher Self!
