On Self-Realisation

Self-Realisation (or: svarūpa-sthiti) is one of the high points of attainment of a Yogi. This word is often used in different ways than we do in Yoga. For us Yogis it is a point where all of our Being is completely aligned with one another. In such a way that we, for the very first time —directly and not just as a mental concept — experience ourselves as a perfectly integrated whole. A whole that is infinite, just like the Divine. It is a realisation of our True Nature, the Soul or the Self. From that point on, nothing will remain the same.

When this has happened, in my tradition this will be soon accompanied by two other experiences, that are triggered through our getting to know this higher, complete Self in the period after Self-Realisation. These experiences are:

  • The realisation of our true name, which is a Sanskrit reflection of the essential energy pattern of your individualised Self, with the specific qualities it has gathered over aeons of reincarnating, which are known as our Dharma, as we can perceive through the sense of hearing. (For me, this was Māntrikadeva.)
  • And the realisation of our true form, which is an expression of the essential energy pattern of your individualised Self in the form of colour, as we can perceive it through the sense of sight. (For me, the most important part of this was blue subordinated to red.)

You may think: of what use is this? These three experiences can give you profound insight into who you truly are, in ways that will bring you beyond a point of unhealthily doubting yourself. They will enhance and stabilise your connection to the spiritual side of life and will anchor you there so firmly, that you will ultimately be ready to sever all your inner attachments to material life. This will give you a great freedom and a strongly enhanced ability to serve compassionately and lift people out of their problems.

🙏 May you be able to reach this point during this lifetime!
